Eragon

In a land ruled by the evil King Galbatorix, a teenager finds a mysterious blue stone while hunting in the woods.
The stone hatches into a dragon and it becomes clear that Eragon's destiny is to revive the ancient tradition of the dragon riders and defeat the evil king.
This film is very over the top and earnest with the sickly sweet relationship between Eragon and the dragon Saphira (voiced by Birtish actress Rachel Weisz) and Eragon's tutor in dragon riding (Jeremy Irons) giving him some fairly heavy moral guidance.
But a great cameo from John Malkovitch as a slightly camp King Galbatorix saves it from taking itself too seriously.
And the special effects when Eragon flies through the skies on the dragon's back are fantastic.
